Blundstone is one of the most notable boot brands known for its high-quality materials, comfort, stability, and durability.
Since these boots survive rugged and challenging terrains, they are usually suitable shoes for winter. Now the striking questions are:
Can Blundstone boots survive being under the rain or snow for a long time? Are Blundstone boots waterproof?
Well, that’s what we will find out in this article.
Are Blundstone Boots Waterproof?
No, they are not. Like all leather boots, Blundstone is water-resistant. The Blunny boot features a chrome-tanned leather upper that repels against water and oil splash. They protect your feet from harsh conditions but can’t guarantee dry feet under the rain.
The boot features a cemented construction, which involves gluing the outsole to the upper. While this method may be the simplest and the fastest way of making shoes, it is not durable and would fall apart if soaked in the rain.
However, the Blundstone brand has another collection of boots known as the thermal series. The thermal series is specifically designed to provide your feet with warmth and dryness, even in the harshest winter. It is fully waterproof coupled with enough arch support and comfort for your feet.
Aside from the thermal series, the Blundstone boots are not waterproof but water-resistant.

How to Waterproof Blundstone
To waterproof leather Blundstone, the brand provided a superior waterproof spray, a fast-drying formula that protects your boot from water damage and permanent stains.
You can also use mink oil to waterproof your boot as it can bounce water drops off it. However, mink oil darkens your leather boots.
If you apply it to a mocha-colored leather boot, it will appear black. Meanwhile, the suede and Nubuck Blundstone boots are waterproof using a Scotchgard spray.
You should note that you can’t fully waterproof Blundstone boots as they are of cemented construction. This waterproof method can only shield the upper but not the cemented construction between the upper and the outsole.
However, if the cemented construction would allow it, you should sew your boots round to enhance their longevity.

Is Blundstone Water-Resistant?
Yes, they are water-resistant. It may be surprising, but there is a difference between waterproof and water-resistant.
While a waterproof boot means that the boot is impermeable to water, the water-resistant boot resists water penetration to an extent.
At least the Blundstone boots can resist a water splash from a puddle to soak your feet. Their boots are treated with oil and water repellant at the upper to keep your feet dry.
Can You Wear Blundstone Boots in the Rain and Snow?
Yes, you can. You don’t need to avoid rain or snow while wearing Blundstone. Although they are not waterproof, the uppers are coated with a water repellant that makes your feet dry and warm.
How to Clean Your Blundstone
Another thing you need to know is how to clean your Blundstone boot without affecting its durability. For the Blunnies with leather upper, these are the steps you must take to clean up your boot;
Step 1: Clean off dirt
First, you remove dirt from the boot with a clean rag, microfiber towel, or horsehair brush before applying any leather conditioner. Don’t use water on the leather, but on the rubber sole if you have to.
Step 2: Apply conditioner
After removing all the dirt in your boot, apply a leather conditioner like Venetian leather balm. Unlike mink oil, it doesn’t darken the color of your boot but leaves it flexible and supple.
Spread it evenly on your boot with either your hand or rag and leave it for 10 minutes to enable it to penetrate fully into the leather pores.
Step 3: Brush the boots
Brush the boot with a horsehair brush going back and forth to level the leather conditioner you applied. Your Blundstone boot is ready to be worn clean and set.

How to Clean Blundstone Boots with Saddle Soap
If your boot is covered with mud or sand, you can use saddle soap after you must have removed as much dirt as you can.
Step 1: Get your soap and material ready
You first open the lid of the saddle soap tin and fill it with warm water.
Step 2: Apply the soap to the spots
Soak a small horsehair brush or dauber brush in water to make it wet. Then swirl it in the saddle soap tin to generate soap lather and apply it to the boot.
Step 3: Scrub gently to clean
Scrub the boot in a circular motion till it is ridden of the dirt.
Step 4: Clean off the lather and dry
After that, use a dry rag to clean off the soap lather, and allow your boot to dry for about 6 to 12 hours. Avoid using a hair dryer to speed up the drying process, as it may damage the leather.
Once the boot is completely dried, apply a leather conditioner.
Note: If you have scratches on your leather Blunny and want to even out the color, find a great dye such as the Feibings pro dye to give the almost exact color of your boot.
However, you should note that the method of cleaning leather Blunnies is different from suede and Nubuck Blunnies. In suede and Nubuck Blundstone boots, you should use a suede brush and brush the dirt away from the body.
If the dirt persists, use suede cleaner till there is no more dirt to remove.
What’s the Whole Point?
Blundstone boots are among the best boots for winter. They may not be waterproof, but they ensure dry feet due to the water repellant coating the upper. They also offer a warm feel and maximum comfort to your feet.
But if you insist on getting a waterproof boot, you should go for the Thermal series. The thermal series of Blundstone is waterproof and provides thermal insulation to your feet. More so, you can use the brand’s waterproofing spray or mink oil to waterproof your leather Blundstone boot.
